The chilly and damp weather did not deter the faithful from turning out for the annual DGCNV Membership March at Bluemont. The new Club discs and tags, designed again by Tom C were ready for the event. 25 new and returning members were on hand to receive their player packages and compete for tags in the opening event of the season. After three rounds from each of the tees, new member Andrew R was on top and took the #1 tag back to Maryland.

The Rice brothers and Joe were there early to get things set up. The new, portable shelter was useful as there was a light drizzle. Player packages included the new discs, Rocs and Aviars in DX plastic, Aviar Drivers and Orcs in Star plastic, 2007 tags, newsletter, schedule, Sharpies, made in the USA, and other printed material. Matt B brought the Sherpa Tea and we were ready for the attendees.

After the crowd gathered, practiced a little it was time to welcome the members. Tim Beron was on hand to offer the members a discounted entry fee for the upcoming Bluemont Cherry Blossom and say a few words about the Laurel Hill project. Joe showed off the Ragnar Overby Trophy and publicized the Spring Singles and Wednesday Doubles events. Members were encouraged to view the DGCNV website and participate in the Club’s forum.

The format for the day was three rounds of nine holes from each of the 3 tee pads. A number of CTP prizes were on the table, including a disc golf basket, for the best shot on hole 3, which was on the mound for the day. Andrew got of to the early lead, besting the Rice brothers by 1. The lead didn’t change hands after two rounds, but Tom C slipped into 3rd place with Matt R dropping another stroke to Andrew. From the Blue tees, some of the most challenging golf in the area, Konrad had the hot round with a 28, but it wasn’t enough to catch Andrew who also came in under 30. Andrew completed the wire-to-wire win, beating Matt by 4 and Tom by 6.

Trent A got the CTP on three to win basket. Three other CTP prizes were handed out. Players received their new tags depending on their overall scores. $14 was collected fro an Ace Pot which was not hit. The generous members decided to donate it to the Club. A number of discs were sold by the Club to put the Club in a good financial position for the start of the year.

Thanks to all for coming out with the threat of inclement weather. Special thanks to the Rice brothers for pitching in with the set up and to Tommy D for wrapping things up in fine form.
