The team needed to win its two matches on Sunday to qualify for the money round but after winning the first versus Team Trim, The Yankee Confederate Alliance ended the tournament for our heroes. Better luck next year. Jeremy received the team MVP award for his fine work and Terry West was awarded the team spirit award for his efforts. . |
The 12 teams were divided into two divisions, Beef and Dairy. The Dairy consisted of Pennsylvania Proud, Raleigh Area Disc League, Blue Ridge, Home on the Range, Calvert Flyers and Team Rudy. Beef was Newport News, Team Trim, Yankee Confederate Alliance, NOVA, Bayville and Pacos Tacos. Each team consisted of 9 players with 4 Pro positions, 2 Masters, 2 Ams and 1 Woman. Players from each position played their counterparts from their own Division. This round robin was the first five, 12-hole matches with the two best teams from each division going on to the money round.
Making the money round in the Beef Division was Pacos Tacos, undefeated and with a record of 4 0 1. Second place in the Beef was Team Trim at 3 1 1. RADL won the Dairy Division with a record of 4 0 1. Pennsylvania took second at 3 1 1. These four teams played for the Title with RADL defeating Trim and Pacos Tacos besting Pennsylvania in the semis.
The finals between RADL and Pacos Tacos were hotly contested with two of the matches going into extra holes. In the end, RADL captured the 2005 VTI, taking the match 5 4.
The MVP for each of the 12 teams received a nice commemorative trophy. The award for team spirit was a fine wooden mini donated by Susi. Cash payouts were made to the individual winners from each position after the round robin matches.
Particular individual recognition to Jim Myers, for his monster skip deuce on 18 in the finals,
supposedly the first
deuce ever on the hole. Ron Turner ripped a stupendous drive on hole five to
within 20ft of the basket.
The
tournament was well run and well attended. The spirit for the team event was
very high and there has been nothing but tremendous praise for John Biscoes
efforts. The event was a great showcase for the areas finest players and a
truly challenging course.
Congratulations
to Raleigh Area Disc League and Pacos Tacos for their wins and to all the individual
winners. Thanks to all the participants for making it a memorable event and
especially to John Biscoe.
